INTERIOR DESIGN & FINE ART
Modern Art Deco Hotel Lobby
The objective of this project was to design a lobby area that is open of off the main lobby of a boutique hotel. The client has a fondness for Dorothy Draper and Syrie Maugham and they would like these styles to be taken into consideration. The client has also given a $3,000 budget for a piece from the time period.
The design features a lounge that is centered around a fireplace that features an embedded art deco design above it. The seats themselves are fun, bright colors inspired by both Dorothy Draper and Syrie Maugham. Also inspired by Draper is the checkered flooring and the bold wallpaper. Behind the seating area is a floor to ceiling partition that is partially see through, as to not totally break up the space. Up against the partition is a side board, which holds the vase (pictured below) that was picked from 1stdibs.com. On the opposite side of the room is a bar top with stools so you are able to sit with your laptops and work if you so choose. The wall that the bar top is against a wall of beveled mirrors, inspired by Syrie Maugham. Also inspired by her are the other walls and ceiling which are white, except for the fireplace which I decided to make a deeper color to add some more interest and contrast.
