Modern Rococo Boudoir
The assignment given was to design a modern bedroom and boudoir based on characteristics of 18th-century France and related French Rococo and Neoclassical interiors and furnishings. The client has provided a $15,000 credit at 1stDibs.com and would like something authentic to the historical period selected for the modern space that is being creating.
Rococo design is over the top ornamental and very opulent. It is know for curves, gilding, pastel colors and sculpted plaster. The boudoir was a room that was meant for women to sit in before or after having company over. It also can refer to a women's private bedroom.
The bedroom has an accent wall with a floral design that is reminiscent of sculpted plaster used in Rococo designs. I made sure to add crown molding to add to that element. While canopy beds came about in the 16th century they were still very popular in the Rococo period to show off wealth with the textiles that were used.
A sitting area was a obvious choice to include in the design because it is traditionally what a boudoir is. I chose pieces with gold accents to really drive home the fact that Rococo design is extravagant and meant to show off your wealth. The console is a French Rococo console from 1stDibs that goes for $5,850.
The walk in closet is not only a place for clothing but also a place for a woman to relax on her rounded chaise lounge and to do her makeup at her vanity. The closet features a full length gilded mirror to be able to see your entire body. The wallpaper on the back wall is also gilded in a nonlinear pattern. The gold fixtures also create that luxurious feeling.
